we mourn the loss of jürgen leuz

Jürgen Leuz passed away on September 7 after long illness. He was 81 years old.

He grew up in a world of jewellery and watches. Early on, he was exposed to the industry through his father’s own watch business in Stuttgart/Germany, which he joined for a few years. Thereafter, he moved to the Swiss watch manufacturer, ETERNA, for whom he worked as an independent sales representative for over 10 years.

In 1969, he joined SCHAFFRATH – a company with a long tradition in diamonds. There, Jürgen created an entirely new segment – the “jewellery manufaktur” (i.e., fine craftsman manufacturing of jewellery). Over the years, this new segment grew to be Schaffrath’s most important one, which it still is today. Under his leadership and guidance, Schaffrath created modern diamond jewellery manufactured with fine craftsmanship. Numerous of his designs are still in our collection, even after 40 years, and have over time become classics. In addition, he started the internalization of the company. It was one of his major successes that Schaffrath became a jewellery partner of De Beers Germany. Through this cooperation, Jürgen played a significant role in developing their marketing concepts for the German jewellery industry. In 2003, he left the business and handed it over to the next generation in the family.

It deeply saddens our hearts that Jürgen is no longer with us. We promise to honor his life’s work by keeping his memory and spirit alive in our minds.
